"Gone to the dogs"

Since I was born, there were pets in our family. At the first time cats - and I still love cats!

But as a child I always dreamed of living with a dog! And there was a wonderful dog in our neighbourhood: I will always remember Bodo, the Newfoundland dog. There were also two great danes, but I was afraid of them a little. Don't ask me why!

We had not the possibility to own a dog at this time.
So I had to wait...!

Our persiancat "Quella vom Erlenwald"
called "Seppi"!

In 1981 the time had come, I was able to buy my first dog! It had to be a Newfoundland dog, and so
Wotan - "Donar vom Timpetu" came in our family.

He was a wonderful boy, with gentle mind and soulful brown eyes.

Also he was a marvelous representative of the Newfoundland breed, but his hip dysplasia terminated my dreams of breeding with him. Although we had many good years together and he got complaints however only at high age.

In 1992 my mother and I removed from Weimar to Kiliansroda. Kiliansroda is a very small village. Now we had a house with garden, but Wotan felt very lonely. He missed all his friends! So we decided to buy a second dog, because Wotan loved puppies and would be a good "father". We looked out for a great dog with short hairs. And one day we saw a litter of Great Danes, blue and black. It was love at the first sight. And so a few weeks later "Gaston von der Hammerschmiede" called "Festus" came in our house. He was a lovely, high-spirited black boy - and in short time he made us love Great Danes forever.

We visited some "Dane-Shows" and bought a lot of books about Great Danes. And soon we startet dreaming of a little blue girl!

In december 1992 we found our "dreamgirl" in Wetzlar: "Quincy vom Simberg" we called "Sugar", because she was sooo sweet!

Sugar became our foundation bitch. She had two beautiful litters. And she also was very successful in the showring. Her children Avanti, Baidschi and Bombax today live with us.

So it started!

And now I'm sitting here in june 2000,
after 20 years living with dogs.

And in my arms you see
"Happy von der Bocksleite",
the ninth dog in my life!

And it won't be the last
I hope!

PS in Summer 2003:
And it wasn't the last - just look at our page! :-)
Do you know the german actor Heinz Rühmann?
He said:

"You can live without a dog, but it is not worth while!"
